Nervi-Conterno Gattinara 2019
Nervi-Conterno Gattinara 2019
Coming from four crus within the Gattinara commune, ranging between 290–420 metres in elevation (Molsino, Valferana, Garavoglie, and Casacce vineyards).
The 2019 Nervi-Conterno Gattinara release is the second vintage produced under Roberto Conterno’s watchful eye. Fruit was picked in the 2nd week of October, earlier than the Langhe by at least a week. After gentle destemming and crushing, fermentation and maceration of 18-20 days occurred is 65-70HL truncated conical oak vats followed by aging in large oak for 30 months before bottling. Roberto purchased 12 new Stockinger tini in recent years, with the others all originals from Nervi estate, some are 55 years old. The 2018 leaps out of the glass and is crushed red berry fruited with rose petal accents and orange peel and cool spice lift. There is that evocative white peach character also and the frame is seemingly light on its feet with high acidity and powdery tannins. Length for days.
