Collection: Wantirna Estate

This year marks 60 years of grape growing at Wantirna Estate, one of Australia's greatest producers and certainly one of the Yarra's earliest. For many Wantirna will need no introduction. They make, in my opinion, the greatest Bordeaux blend in Victoria, as well as some of the most highly regarded and sought after Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
For those new to the brand, Wantirna are a family-owned and run estate making only single-site wines that spill out from their front door, with the winemaking happening in the winery which abuts the house. It is simple, old school, traditional, and yet so precise, complex, sublime.
The cuvées are named after Reg & Bettina Egan's granddaughters with drawings by Melbourne artist Leunig depicting their personalities. These days Reg oversees Wantirna and it is his daughter Maryann who looks after the vineyard:
"Our single vineyard production means that the wines are very much a reflection of the season. We don’t aim to make the same wine every year. It is important for the wines to be of a Wantirna Estate style perhaps, but still very much show the different characteristics of the season." Maryann Egan
